Absences from School

All absences and late arrivals to school require notification by each student's parents or carers. This facilitates the completion of the Register of Attendance in compliance with the ACT Education Directorate policies.

If your child or children is not attending school on any day, please call us on 6142 2460 before 9.15 am or email info@faddenps.act.edu.au. If we note your child is absent and we have not heard from you by 9.30am, we will mark your child as 'unexplained absence' and you will receive an SMS to explain the absence.

Whenever your child is absent from school we require a note to explain for this absence. If a prolonged absence is anticipated, notification of this is via email to the school. Children are not permitted to leave the school grounds during school hours. Parents are to sign students out at the front office if they need to leave during the day.

Where exceptional circumstances exist parents should contact the Principal.

After School Care

After school care is provided at the school by Communities@Work and is conducted by trained and experienced child care workers. They provide care for the children of parents in the work force as well as families that need occasional out of school hours care.

Children enrolled with Communities@Work proceed directly to the After School Care area when dismissed from class, are checked in, have afternoon tea, and are then involved in art, craft and indoor or outdoor games or excursions, under the supervision of the coordinator and Centre staff.

Further information and enrolment forms, are available at the Communities@Work webpage.

Ambulance Transportation

Students injured while under supervision at school or in a school-related situation are transported free of charge to the emergency section of either public hospital in the ACT.

Parents and guardians of students who participate in excursions and other school trips outside the ACT should note that free ambulance transportation only applies in the ACT. Parents and guardians are reminded to check their health cover for ambulance transportation outside the ACT.

Arrival at School

Please ensure children arrive at school in time to commence lessons at 9:00am. A late arrival is disruptive and often your child will miss important learning time. Children should not arrive before 8:30 am as there is not staff supervision in the playground.

Assemblies

Whole school assemblies are held in the school hall commencing at 2:30pm on even weeks of each term.

Attendance

Regular attendance is vital as it affects school work, social adjustment and attitudes to school. Regular absences can be a considerable disadvantage to a child’s progress.

However, home is the best place for a really sick child. We do not have the facilities or staff to look after a sick child. In the event of a child becoming ill at school, or where a child is unfortunate enough to have an accident, you or your emergency contact will be informed. It is important that you complete the annual Medical Information and Consent form and with current telephone numbers.
